It has been a number of years since I have fished for stripers in the Bay of Fundy..Thought I had read were only barbless hooks were to be used now by law.Is this a new regulation?

Not sure about the Fundy population (I use them regardless) but Gulf of St Lawrence is single in-line barbless circles for bait fishing. I can also vouch for the fact that this is an excellent technique, barbs make almost no difference for your chance of landing a fish if using circle hooks but a huge difference for releasing a fish with a good chance of survival. What you do have to watch when fishing circles is avoid the instinct for Crocodile Dundee yank to set the hook when you feel bites. You will just pull the bait out of the fishes mouth. Just let it nibble and do a relatively slow and constant pull and you will have the fish on.
