I am a long time angler, but new to the forum. I am quite interested in making my own fishing rigs. I was wondering if you outstanding chaps could recommend a place to purchase the necessary supplies (crimps, beads, crimppers, etc.). I live in Halifax and prefer to buy local, but I am also open to online transactions.

As another point of interest I am also very interested in purchasing a tackle binder.

I got some tackle binders from bass pro and use them to organize my fly tying materials seem pretty sturdy. Ran out of sleeves though so bought some ziplocks reinforced the end with duct tape then puched holes thru and they fit perfectly

First of all, Welcome to the site.

Now let's get you some info. I haven't found anyone locally selling lure kits. I've certainly picked up odds and ends at craft and dollar store, but nobody selling anything like a kit.

There are however a number of good online sites for lure making supplies. The first one you should check out would be Lure Parts Online : http://lurepartsonli...nl?partner=1002 This is an American site with an unbelievable selection. Just found them recently, so I haven't ordered from them yet. So far I like what I've seen. Another perk is they have a catalogue.

You could also check out Mud Hole : http://www.mudhole.com/. Again American. I've ordered from them and had no problems. They also carry rod building gear and fly tying supplies.

Last but not least, this is a Canadian company that may carry everything your looking for. I've ordered from them with no problems. They also carry lure making kits. Check out Luremaking.com : http://www.luremaking.com/index.htm

No reason at all. I get stuff from the dollar and craft stores all the time. Always check the dollar stores first. Same stuff, but cheaper. Just remember to pick up a bunch of anything you find at the Dollar stores. Their stock goes quickly and no guarantee you'll see it next time.

I also find that Atlantic Fabrics can be a great source for stuff.

With regard to beads, the plastic beads are best, I find. Glass beads will shatter easily.
