My wife has day surgery in Truro tomorrow giving me four hours to kill and am thinking on heading to the Stewiacke with the fly rod.

How's the river producing these days?? Anyone catching any Stripers?? Still many Bass in the river?? Worth the trip??

Thank you!!

Cheers!
Jeff

Hey Cap'n,

In my humble opinion, the Stewie is always worth fishing. There should still be some Stripers around. Also some Shad and who know's, you might even hook a Brown.

Haven't been up in a week, so I can't say for sure, but the Stewie is always worth a try.

Terran
If you fish them - they will come!

Thanks Terran!! I figured I would toss some clouser's near the boat launch for a couple hours and depending on my success possibly move up to the park to try for Brown's but for all I know the Striper's are up stream and the Brown's are down stream..lol

I would love to get a BIG Striper on the fly, hopefully it would give me some practice and what to expect just in case I hook into my first Salmon when we go to the Margaree this Summer. :)

Cheers!
Jeff

I am newbie for striped bass fishing and want to ask few newbie questions. Your suggestions are appreciated.

As per the fishing guidebook, is it ok to fishing with bait from this Sunday (June 10), right?

From what I heard, the striped bass are moving back to tidal water after spawning. Does that mean I should go to the river which is close to the tidal water?

I googled the online map and noticed that there are several bridges along the highway 2, such as Enfield, Elmsdale, Dutch Settlement Road and Milford Road. Anyone can give me some suggestion, which area among these bridge is the better to striped bass fishing in June?

Thanks advance.

Was out yesterday in the Economy area. Quite a few keepers brought in. One 36 incher and a few a little smaller.
I caught and released an 18 incher, but thought that was pretty good for being my first stripped bass! I'm totally hooked now and can't wait to make the journey out from Halifax again

All the hype on this thresd has got my old ticker pumping, striper fishing has been on my bucket list for some time. Yesterday bought new gear , drove to the choc milk pollock bridge, noticed I was the only one there, sensed something was wrong, also noticed the tide hadn`t turned even though the Hantsport DHS prediction said 8:05 pm , by the way how do you guage these river tides? Noticed the river current change direction about 9:20 made a few casts, gasp. cut bait, left for the long drive home . I guess this makes me a seasoned striper fisher. HELP!!!!!!!!!
