Most of the lakes in this area have craggy bottoms with too many weeds. I think that if you pick up a good size fish, that the chances of it getting tangled increase greatly. I have had tips broken off medium graphite rods, while trying to keep CPs out of said entanglements. Also the excess playing with the fish adds greatly to it's stress, which may affect it's survival rate on release.

I got a ugly stick lite fishing rod, but usually but on 8lbs fishing line. So I guess I'm halfway there.

I don't think line really matters. I have it spooled with 10lb ATM cause I ran out of the 4 and didn't wanna put 30lb braid on lol. But it's fun regardless of the line I think

my ultralight set up consists of a 5'6" shimano sensilite rod with a 1000 series shimano symetry front drag reel with 4lb fenwick flex line. I loved this combo so much it led to similar components for my medium set up.

How did you get into using light tackle? For me I bought the wife a rod and reel in march she got pregnant and didn't feel like fishing and I was gonna sell the rod and reel. Broke my medium rapala combo that was ancient and could use my med heavy bait cast combo. So I took that rod. Ended not selling it and keeping it been hooked since. Bought a 7 foot combo to replace the old one and hardly use it.

stradicman what 4lb test line do you use my 4lb flexline is almost gone and they don't make it anymore. Love your reel would have got one but it was $70 more than mine it was out of my price range. My symetry 2000 I had professinally cleaned and the rear bushing changed to a bearing to make it more like the stradic as far as number of bearings go.

Have you had a chance to try a sustain or stella reel?

Back in the 90's ultralight was all the craz back then and decided to try it. Wouldn't hurt since we don't get 5-10lb bass in N.S.

I use trilene XL 4LB and Stren 2LB(couldn't find trilene 2LB around here)This is on a Stradic 1000 FI,have a stradic CI4 2500 with trilene 6LB and this reel is lighter then the 1000fi but it's only made to hold 6 to 10 LB test so it doesn't get used very often, have an old white stradic 2500 FH with 6lb trilene also.Never found a sustain or stella around in my travels to test out but i would never spend what they want for a stella and i came close to ordering the new black sustain this year.Just saw the new saros and i may pick up one of those soon.I still have my old symetry and a old sedona both 2500's that still work great.

I bought a Browning ultralight setup from Bass Pro this spring for trout fishing. I've been using it all summer for bass fishing and it's been so much fun that I may never go back to a heavier setup. I have it spooled with 10lb braid. It's landed a couple of 18 inchers, no problems. Just love it.

I have two Shimano Clarus 6ft Ultralites with Stradic 1000 Series reels loaded with 8 lb powerpro. This is a great setup. I fish from a Kayak and have caught some large fish and have landed and released them just as quick as I would with heavier gear. I use mostly Grubs and Senkos The 6'6'' medium action rods with the 2500 series reels are now left home. I also take with me a Shimano Crucial Baitcaster rod m/h with a Curado reel loaded with 30 lb power pro for fishing top water in the slop.
